  • Welcome back! (lakefield Admin)

    The staff at Lakefield are looking forward to welcoming current and new pupils back to school on Wednesday. There is already a lot of exciting events planned for the year 2018-2019 and we hope the children are refreshed and ready for their next chapter here at Lakefield!

  • Class 2 (Rachel)

    This week we have enjoyed Art in our topic sessions, creating our own pictures of the Great Fire of London using paint and collage. We have begun exploring newspaper reports in English, looking at the different features ready to write our own reports about The Great Fire. In Maths we have started learning about Statistics and have enjoyed collecting data about each other.

    We have been learning - oa, ow, o-e sounds in phonics! Making the inverse operations in Mathematics and rhyming words in English! We have been talking about our identities in P.S.H.E and how special and individual we are. We thought about what jobs we may like to do when we are older- authors, teachers, doctors and builders to name a few!

    This week we have made bird feeders and looked for signs of winter. 

  • Class 4 (Amanda)

    We have really enjoyed designing our temples and learning how to paste them into word using the print screen button. We finished writing our description of our own mythical creatures and have displayed them with our computer generated pictures in the classroom. 

  • Class 6 (Sue)

    This week, we have been learning all about interdependence and adaptation. We have looked at how to identify evidence for evolution from fossil records and how humans have evolved. We have considered how adaptations can result in both advantages and disadvantages and how human intervention affects evolution.

  • Class 5 (lakefield Admin)

    Class 5 have been learning about how night and day occur here on Earth, have been learning an inspirational song in Music and have started our unit on fractions in Maths. We are three quarters of the way through our class novel and are hoping to finish it by half term!

  • Class 2 (Rachel)

    This week we have been continuing with our division in maths, looking at grouping as well as odd and even numbers. In English we have been reading diaries from The Great Fire of London and are planning to write our own entry. We enjoyed our gymnastics with Mr Flounders on Tuesday, learning how to roll and balance in different ways.

    This week in phonics we have been pactising writing ' ir, ur and er ' in words. We are learning to retell the story of The Gruffalo. We have been subtracting using the number line in mathematics. We celebrated reaching 1000 dojo points as a class with a GoNoodle party! Well done everyone!

  • Class 6 (Sue)

    This week, Class 6 have been working hard at finding equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages. We have also learnt all about the artist Georges Seurat who used pointillism to paint pictures. We used his famous painting 'The Seine at La Grande Jatte' as a stimulus for our own river pointillism painings.

  • Class 4 (Amanda)

    We have been continuing with multiplication in mathematics, using our knowledge of times tables to help us. We have begun our topic of amazing architecture and looking at Greek architecture. In English we have designed our own mythical creatures. 

  • Class 5 (lakefield Admin)

    Class 5 have started their Science unit on Earth, Sun and Moon and have enjoyed ordering the planets and finding out facts about each one. They have also been working hard on short division in Maths and relative clauses in English.

  • Class 3 (Kristy)

    Year 3 have created some amazing pieces of writing this week about the Minotaur.  We have also discovered what the Greeks have done for us.  In Maths we are all working hard to perfect our division strategies.  In PE we are enjoying gymnastics and netball.

    We have worked hard learning and retelling Theseus and the Minotaur this week.  We have also started to explore Greek architecture; observing and drawing Greek temples and looking closely at the columns showing the different orders.  Class 3 have also planted trees today!!

  • Class 2 (Rachel)

    This week we have been very busy enjoying our new topic The Great Fire of London. On Monday morning we went to Skillzone in Gloucester to learn about how to keep ourselves safe in a variety of different locations and scenarios. The life-size village was very exciting and we all took on board a lot of information in 2 hours including how to cross safely at a level crossing, how to cross the road, dangers on a farm and dangers in a house, including fire safety. We all designed safety posters when we got back to school to share the important messages we had learnt.

    Welcome Back! This week in Forest School we have made scarecrows inspired by One Warm Fox and The Scarecrows Wedding. 

  • Class 2 (Rachel)

    Class 2 are very excited about our new Great Fire of London topic this term. We have started to think about what life would have been like in the past and are comparing it to present day London. We have been practising our multiplication skills in Maths this week, using arrays and looking at our times tables. We are also looking forward to our trip to Skillzone on Monday morning.

    Welcome back! This week we have been planning our new topic 'Amazing Animals!' We enjoyed our first P.E session this year- gymnastics, with Mr Flounders. We have been adding - ing to verbs in English and 'counting on' in Mathematics. Please send in Forest School clothing again as we will soon be outside learning next week! 

     

  • Class 5 (lakefield Admin)

    Year 5 have had a good start to the spring term. We have kicked off our new topic on Rivers, by creating river pictures in the style of the artist Georges Seurat, who helped create the painting technique of Pointillism. We have also started a new book called Moondial, by Helen Cresswell which looks very mysterious!

  • Class 3 (Kristy)

    Welcome back, year 3 have had a busy first week!  We have begun to explore Forces and Magnets; we are looking forward to planning and carrying out an investigtion on friction.  Year 3 are also entering the world of Ancient Greece; reading, exploring and writing myths and loking at architecture.  We have started reading Theseus and the Minotaur.  

  • Class 4 (Amanda)

    We are looking forward to our first swimming session on Friday, please remember your swimming kit. We will also been resuming our ukulele lessons with Mr FP. In mathematics, our focus is multiplication and division. We have begun reading Theseus and the Minotaur.

  • Class 2 (Rachel)

    This week we have enjoyed writing our own version of The Rhythm of Life by Michael Rosen. We have begun typing them up ready to share with everyone else. We have also been working very hard on our Nativity and are almost ready for an audience next week!

  • Reception (Michelle)

    This week in Forest School the children had great fun making rope swings and working as a team. We are learning our songs for the nativity. Rock Steady came to to perform live music and some of us were able to play the keyboard and drums. 

  • Class 5 (lakefield Admin)

    Yesterday we felt jelly and slime, smelt spices and tuna and listened to some sound clips to help inspire our creative writing! We have also been experimenting in Science, using electrical conductors. 

  • Class 4 (Amanda)

    Class 4 have been looking at descriptive noun phrases, to add to our descriptions of the Secret Garden. In maths, we have been converting meteres to kilometres, we measured how far a lap of the field was in metres and worked out we would need to walk around the field 5.5 times to complete a kilometre. We have also been on an invertebrate walk around school, using a key to identify the invertebrates we found.

  • Class 6 (Sue)

    This week, Class 6 have become 'Agony Aunts' and 'Agony Uncles' to tackle the subject of cyberbullying and what to do if takes place.

    We have also been looking at historical figures in Viking times such as: King Alfred The Great (Did he really deserve the title 'Great'?); Ethelred The Unready (Should he have paid the Danegold?) and King C'nut (What do we judge to be the most significant events of his life?).

    Class 1 have been adding adjectives to their sentences! We have been learning about tens and ones in maths, especially the teens numbers! We created our own cyber superhero in E-safety, helping us to be safe online. We are all working so hard - well done Class 1!

    This week we enjoyed our walk around Frampton and added key buildings to our maps as we walked around.

    We have been learning about 2d and 3d shapes in Mathematics and creating our own stories in English!

  • Class 6 (Sue)

    Class 6 have been enthusiastically cycling up and down Lake Lane putting their road skills to the test. They have mastered both the practical aspects of cycling and learnt the necessary road signs needed to keep them safe on the road. Well done Class 6!

  • Class 2 (Rachel)

    Class 2 have been busy counting money in maths this week. We have looked at the different coins and notes and practised making different amounts. In English we have been learning about expanded noun phrases, playing the game Guess Who to help with our descriptive language. We have also planned our own versions of the The Loon on the Moon.

  • Class 4 (Amanda)

    Class 4 have been continuing with our English topic of the Secret Garden. In Maths, we have began our new maths focus of measurement, converting mm to cm. We are very much looking forward to our invertebrate hunt tomorrow.

  • Class 3 (Kristy)

    Class 3 are learning about explanations; we have been trying out using causal conjunctions in our sentences.  We have also begun thinking about fossils and we are looking forward to making our own fossils.

  • Class 5 (lakefield Admin)

    Class 5 have been developing and coding maze games on Scratch this week and working on square numbers and cube numbers in Maths. They are now on chapter 13 in the book How to Train Your Dragon, and have been enjoying adding to their Street Dance routine.

  • Reception (Michelle)

    This week in Reception we have found two eggs and are waiting for them to hatch. We have used the lap tops to play phonics games and have been enjoying forest school.

  • Class 5 (lakefield Admin)

    The chilldren in class 5, demonstrated excellent behaviour and skills during their first swimming session last week. This week they have been testing properties of materials in Science, started boogying in Street Dance and working on multiplication in Maths.

  • Class 4 (Laura)

    This week the children have enjoyed creating their very own Roman mosaics.  After studying some pictures of genuine mosaics they used a clay stamp to create a repeating pattern, the finished pieces look very effective and are in pride of place on our classroom wall.

    We are very excited to have started our Nativity this week, listening to the songs and beginning to think about the characters and story line. In Maths we have been adding 2-digit numbers, using columns to organise our digits. In English we have been drawing story maps to help us learn The Loon on the Moon.

    This week we have been completing activities linked to the story Hansel and Gretel. We have been counting back in mathematics. We have also been creating a simple dance about different feelings!

  • Class 6 (Sue)

    This had been a very busy week in Class 6! The children have been thinking of an experiment to test the effect of exercise on the pulse rate and have come up with some very interesting ideas whilst ensuring it is a fair test. In PE we had a super indoor hockey lesson which enabled the children to work on their control skills. Well done Class 6!

    Welcome back Year1!

    This week we have written poems in English and are learning about subtraction in Mathematics.

    We loved creating leaf hedgehogs in Forest School this afternoon, linked to our Science work on the seasons.

  • Class 3 (Kristy)

    Class 3 have returned to school full of enthusiasm.  We enjoyed making sedimentary sandwiches on Monday to help us understand rock formation.  I hope everyone enjoyed tasting them! wink Class 3 have started to design a roman mosaic and will use print techniques to produce them next week.

    Class 5 have had a super start to the second term, particularly with their creative writing. Miss Rickard and Mrs Burgess have been impressed with the level of effort they have seen from the children. They are thoroughly enjoying reading How to Train Your Dragon and have been learning more about the Vikings this week.

    This week we have started our new text in English, The Loon on the Moon. We are designing our own alien characters with alliterative names ready to write our own stories. In Maths we have been perfecting our column addition, organising our workings neatly in columns! We are also looking forward to Forest School this week.

    In Reception this week we have been making 'we are special' collage of ourselves, using lots of exciting materials. We have been learning our new sounds g,o and u and in maths counting in tens.

  • Class 6 (Sue)

    Welcome back after the half term holiday. This week Class 6 have been learning about the circulatory and digestive systems. They know what the parts of each system are called and their functions. Next week, we will be doing Bikeability so children will need to have their bikes in school on Monday morning.

  • Class 4 (Amanda)

    We have had a really busy week in year 4. Not only have we been rehearsing for the Harvest Assembly but we were very lucky to have a dance workshop with Tasha Lusty. Many Thanks. Class 4 have been learning Irish Dancing moves! The children have really enjoyed it. We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow to share the harvest celebration.

    This week we have been learning about the Amazon Rainforest, researching and taking notes ready to write a setting description. In maths we have been focussing on addition and subtraction, using our number bonds to 10 to help us with larger numbers. We loved our first forest school session last week, making tree faces; we can't wait for our next session tomorrow!

    This week in class 1 we have been enjoying activities linked to the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have been learning to recite the story in preparation for writing next week. In mathematics we have been practising addition.

  • Class 5 (lakefield Admin)

    Class 5 have been finishing off their science unit on forces this week. They have had a boat race, whilst looking at the impact of water resistance and worked with the reception tricycles investigating friction!

     

  • Reception (Michelle)

    This week Reception Class have settled in to staying all day, attending daily worship and joining the rest of the school on the playground at lunchtime. We have started learning our phonicsprogramme and have made a snail zoo, followed arrows and palyed tennis to help us learn the letter s, a and t. We enjoyed using conkers for counting and made some lovely skeletons. We have had lots of fun drawing around our friends and labelling different parts of the body.

    We have had a very exciting week learning all about road safety. We have been out walking every day practising our road safety skills. We have really enjoyed the Autumn sunshine. We stopped to buy biscuits for snack and played games on the grass. 

  • Class 3 (Kristy)

    Rocks, rocks, rocks!  Year 3 have started to explore rocks this week.  We have looked closely at different rocks and we are going to test them.  In Maths we have begun our unit on addition and subtraction and we are still busy exploring the Wild Things.  Harvest Festival rehearsals are in full swing and we look forward to performing soon.

    This week we have had two very exciting Forest School sessions with Mrs Westoby. We made the second little pig's stick houses and also made faces with natural materials that we placed on the trees - they looked awesome! We have been writing lists and learning about labels in English.

  • Class 5 (lakefield Admin)

    This term we have had a focus on publishing our work. We have created beautiful lapbooks on African grey parrots and also completed a piece of work for a writing competition. Miss Rickard and Mrs Burgess have been astounded by the effort we have put into editing and our handwriting! We have also been introduced to Office 365 in computing and can now email each other and share documents. What a super week!

  • Class 4 (Amanda)

    This week in year 4 we have been writing our explanation texts about how the foxearth fowl are different to ordinary farmyard chickens. In our ukulele lessons we are doing really well and have learnt the notes C, D and E. 

  • Class 6 (Sue)

    This week, Class 6 have been very busy creating a musical piece entitled World Unite. They have mastered the art of cup-passing to the beat of the music and learning dance moves to recreate the notes played in the song. We are looking forward to perfroming to Class 1 tomorrow afternoon!

  • Class 2 (Rachel)

    This week Class 2 have started addition and subtraction in Maths. We have been practising our fact families and learning different strategies for checking our calculations. In English, we have started a new book, The Great Kapok Tree, all about the Amazon Rainforest and the animals that live there. We are also looking forward to starting Forest School with Mrs Westoby too!

  • Nursery (Louisa)

    We've been busy keeping ourselves healthy this week. We have been doing lots of exercise in the school hall and on Thursday we all practised brushing our teeth and washing our hands. All our new starters have settled in and are getting to know the Nursery routines.

  • Class 1 (Al)

    This week Class 1 have been reciting the story of 'The three little pigs' and using it to help them with their writing. In maths we have been comparing small and big numbers and have been introduced to the greater than > and less than < symbols. We listened very carefully to the artist that visited showing us her weaving work.

  • Class 5 (lakefield Admin)

    Class 5 have been editing their work and writing their final neat versions of their information texts. They have been developing their explanation skills in maths and learning about the bloodthirsty Vikings! Miss Rickard really enjoyed the debate they had about the Vikings and was impressed by their debating skills. Class 5 staff have also been very impressed with the quality of homework received this week.

    This week we very much enjoyed our finger knitting to make chicken legs for a display related to our class novel The Foxbusters.  The children were concentrating so much we could hear a pin drop in the room.

  • Class 2 (Rachel)

    Class 2 have finally finished reading The Guard Dog by Dick King-Smith. We have been planning and writing the next chapter, thinking about writing clear sentences with capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. In maths we have been counting and comparing numbers, ordering numbers and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

  • Class 6 (Sue)

    This week, Class 6 have produced some wonderful Viking shields using different mediums. They have been experimenting with charcoal, paint, pencils and printing to create their works of art! In Maths, we have been looking at negative numbers and calculating with very large numbers! Well done Class 6!

  • Class 3 (Kristy)

    Class 3 have designed their own Wild Thing this week; they have thought carefully about the charcacter of their Wild Thing and will begin to write a description soon.  We have also found out more about the Roman Empire and continued to refine our badminton and gymnastics skills.

    This week Class 6 have been learning about the who the Vikings were and how they raided, invaded, traded and settled. Our PE lessons have shown some super basketball skills being demonstrated! We loved Tweedy the clown on Tuesday - what a treat!

    This week we have started our Romans topic and the class are very enthusiastic to find out more.  We have also begun reading Where the Wild Things Are; the children had great fun acting out the story today.

    This week we have discussed 'everyday materials' in science. We have enjoyed acting out the story of 'The Three Little Pigs.' We are also very excited to have handwriting books!

    This week we are still reading and enjoying The Guard Dog by Dick King-Smith. We are designing wanted posters to try and find him the perfect home. In Geography we have been using aerial photographs of Frampton to identify human and physical features. We have started learning Badminton in PE, a very tricky sport we have discovered!

    Class 5 have been writing interesting information texts about African Grey Parrots, based on the parrot from Harry's Mad, by Dick King-Smith. They have also been learning about forces and the famous scientist Isaac Newton. A super week, topped off by Tweedy the clown!

    We have to thank our PTA for inviting Tweedy the Clown to school on Tuesday - it was just soooo funny! Definitely the best part of the week!

  • Class 3 (Kristy)

    Class 3 have had a super start to the juniors.  They are working hard to learn new routines and they are coping well with the longer morning.  We have been reading The Hodegeheg by Dick King-Smith; looking at charcater and setting in our written work.  We have also enjoyed producing lots of art work linked to The Hodgeheg including some little clay models!

    Class 5 have had a brilliant first week! They have been reading the book Harry's Mad by Dick King-Smith, proving their explanation skills in maths and producing beautiful Viking shields in art.

  • Class 4 (Amanda)

    We have a fantastic week back in year 4. We have really enjoyed sharing the Dick King Smith presentations, we loved the variety. Thank you. We have started our science 'States of Matter' and looking at solids, liquids and gases.

  • Class 1 (Al)

    Welcome back everyone! We have had such a successful start to the school year. We have been enjoying the story of 'The School Mouse' by Dick King- Smith. We have painted pictures of Flora, the main character and written some simple sentences. We also had a super P.E. session with Mr Tanner on sending and receiving skills.

  • Class 2 (Rachel)

    Year 2 are settling well into life at the top of the Infants. We have started to read The Guard Dog by Dick King-Smith in English and are working on our numbers to 100 in Maths. We have also started our first topic, 'Welcome to Planet Earth!' by going on a tour of the school and labelling our own maps. 

  • Class 6 (Sue)

    We have had a wonderful start to Year 6! The children are learning all about Living Things and their Habitats in Science and are enjoying reading The Water Horse by Dick King-Smith. They are looking forward to their first swimming lesson on Friday morning.

  • Nursery (Louisa)

    Great excitement in the nursery today, a visit from a fire engine! The best part was that we all had a go with the hose. We've been busy talking about what we would like to be when we grow up and getting ready for the last few days of pre-school. We will miss all our pre-school children and look forward to hearing all about their new adventures in big school!

    We have had another busy week in class 1. We all enjoyed taking part in sports day on Wednesday. Today we had a fun lesson in the Life Education bus learing about our wonderful bodies and meeting Gerald the giraffe. 

  • Class 6 (Sue)

    We have had a very busy week this week. The children excelled during sports day and there were some very hoarse voices after the loud shouting and cheering! 

    On Thursday, we designed and made our own pasties, after tasting Cornish pasties during our trip to Bude. Some of the fillings were... interesting! The children seemed to cover themselves in more flour than we started with! 

  • Class 2 (Rachel)

    We have had another busy week this week. We all really enjoyed Sports Day yesterday, cheering on all the Infants and having fun competing in our races. We have also been writing our book reviews up in neat, ready for display in the Library. Today we enjoyed a session in the Life Education bus, meeting Gerald the Giraffe and learning about keeping our bodies healthy.

  • Class 4 (Jemma)

    In Class 4, we have been tasting existing pasta and cous cous dishes and evaluating each product. We have also been tasting different vegetables and creating combinations of these with pasta and cous cous. We are looking forward to making our own salads on Monday.

  • Class 5 (lakefield Admin)

    We thoroughly enjoyed sports day this week and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship. In maths, we have been learning to read timetables and interpret line graphs. We are looking forward to a busy last week of term next week!

  • Class 3 (Amy)

    A huge well done to all Class 3 & 5 members who were able to attend MUSICATE at Cheltenham Town Hall on Saturday! A great performance! This week Class 3 have been finishing off their measure unit in Maths by looking at measuring weight. In English the children are writing a version of a Greek Myth, Perseus and the Gorgon's head.

  • Nursery (Louisa)

    We have had a very busy week in Nursery this week. Sports Day and our end of year party. What fun! We really loved the Sunshine Clowns and had a lovely picnic in the Nursery garden.

  • Class 1 (Michelle)

    In Class 1, we have been learning about different animals. We were very excited to have Critter Encounters in school and some of the children were very brave and held a snake!  

  • Class 5 (lakefield Admin)

    Year 5 have been working very hard on their information texts about the Anglo-Saxons. They have been using word to publish them, using text boxes and making them look very professional! They have also been painting some beautiful death masks, using pearlescent paint. 

  • Class 2 (Rachel)

    This week we have enjoyed reading lots of Julia Donaldson stories and writing book reviews. In Maths we have been working on our position and direction vocabulary, following directions and finding buried treasure on treasure maps. Today we have had an Art day, looking at Vincent Van Gogh and his famous Sunflowers picture. We have used clay, pastels and our mark making skills to reproduce our own versions of his sunflowers. 

  • Thursday 6th July (Al)

    This week we have been learning all about 'snails.' Many children were brave enough to hold the snails and look closely at them, especially pleased to discover their breathing holes hiding under the shell! The children loved making their own versions of Henri Matisse - the snail.

  • Class 6 (Sue)

    We had the most amazing time in Bude - despite the weather! The children were impeccably behaved and threw themselves into all of the activities with great enthusiasm. 

    This week in science, the children have been discovering how light and colours are seen and they have been learning all about the seasons and weather in German.

  • Class 4 (Jemma)

    In Class 4, we have been learning about the language used in writing instructions. In science we have been looking at food chains and identifying producers and consumers.

  • Class 3 (Amy)

    Class 3 this week have been preparing for their forthcoming perfomance at Cheltenham Town Hall for the MUSICATE journey finalie. As well as this they have been working with Class 4 for topic research about 'Glorious Gloucestershire'.

  • Class 4 (Jemma)

    Class 4 have been busy in maths converting measures and carrying out time investigations. In English, we have been looking closely at persuasive language and planning our own piece of persuasive text with rhetorical questions.

  • Thursday 15th June (Al)

    This week Reception class have listened to the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar - Eric Carle.'

    We can now retell the story using actions and have made story maps.

    Today 5 little caterpillars arrived in class and the children are very keen to observe their changes over the next few weeks!

     

  • Class 2 (Rachel)

    Class 2 have enjoyed writing poetry this week based on a poem by Michael Rosen. They have performed them to each other and written them up in their best handwriting for display. 

  • Class 5 (lakefield Admin)

    Rehearsals have been well under way this week, ready for the KS2 production next week. Class 5 have been challenging themselves in maths, working on some very tricky perimeter problems. They have also been competing against other schools in a Sumdog competition and we are currently in third place, with some children in the top fifty!

  • Class 6 (Sue)

    Well, we are nearly there! Production rehearsals are in full swing and the acting, singing and dancing is absolutely fantastic! The Year 6 classroom is filled with brightly coloured costumes, broken broomsticks and superhero capes! All of the children are really looking forward to showing off all of their hard work next week.

  • Class 4 (Jemma)

    This week Class 4 have been problem solving in maths and approaching problems in a logical way. We have also had a busy sporting week with great success in the district sports.

  • Class 3 (Amy)

    In Class 3 this week we have continued to look at information texts. We are planning to create a leaflet for the forthcoming 'Summer fair' with information about the events and stalls that will take place. In maths we have been re-capping time and the use of roman numerals on clock faces.

  • Class 1 (Michelle)

    This week Class 1 have enjoyed reading about Little Red Riding Hood. In maths we have been counting in 2's, 5's and 10's.

    Class 5 have been working really hard this week. We have been learning long multiplication in maths and working hard on improving our reading comprehension.

    Class 4 have been really busy this week! We have been learning about coordinates and the translation of shapes in Maths. We have also started to rehearse for the KS2 performance and we are beginning to sound great!smiley

    Reception class have been busy planning their new topic - Magic Minibeasts!

    This week we have been making symmetrical patterns using a range of materials - numicon, mosaics, 2D shapes, pegs, beads, paint, tissue paper, cones and 3D blocks - great ideas!

    The class were very excited to have P.E. with Mr Tanner.

     

  • Class 2 (Rachel)

    Class 2 have been enjoying listening to, performing and writing poetry this week. They have been really enthusiastic with their writing and will be writing their poems up in best next week ready for a new display! They have also been learning to tell the time, both reading clocks and drawing on the hands. They are very excited about their first swimming lesson tomorrow too!

    On Tuesday, Class 6 visited Gloucester Cathedral for their Leavers' service. After the service they had a tour of the cathedral and ate their picnic lunch in the beautiful gtounds next to the Cloisters. They even saw a Harry Potter pig!!!

  • Class 2 (Rachel)

    This week we have written our own endings for 'Stinky Jack and the Beanstalk' and enjoyed sharing them in front of the whole class. We have also planted out our sunflower seeds, sugar snap seeds, tomatoes, carrots and lettuce. We can't wait for them to finish growing so that we can eat them!

  • Class 5 (lakefield Admin)

    Class 5 thoroughly enjoyed their school trip to the Egypt Centre in Swansea this week. They have come back full of knowledge and particularly liked dressing up as Egyptians!

            

  • Class 6 (Sue)

    This week, we have been using our home-made astrolabes to measure how tall the trees on our playing field are. We have also created beautiful patterns using parabolic curves.

  • Class 3 (Amy)

    Class 3 have been looking at fractions in Maths and practicing their grammar and punctuation as well as reading in English. In topic they have studied flooding and the hazards that it brings as well as looking at local flooding in the last few years.

    This week Reception have been making gingerbread men having read the story of 'The Gingerbread Man' and been on an outside walk around school looking for all of 'God's Creation.'

  • Class 1 (Michelle)

    In Class 1 we have been learning about the Creation story, using pastels to make pictures and writing prayers for our class prayer book. 

  • Class 4 (Jemma)

    Class 4 have taken advantage of the beautiful weather to enjoy our learning outside in the spiritual garden.

  • Class 5 (lakefield Admin)

    This week we have been working hard on our grammar and punctuation in English and finding percentages of amounts in Maths. In topic, we have been finding out about the amazing discovery of Tutankhamun and have put ourselves in Howard Carter's shoes!

               

  • Class 2 (Rachel)

    It has been another busy week in Class 2. We have been working hard on our maths, 'showing off' our skills ready for year 3. We have also been on a walk to Saul Junction with Class 3 learning about the history of the Junction and looking at the habitats around the area. We had a great time with the volunteers from the Cotswold Canals Trust and highly recommend it as a day out for all the family!

    This week, the long-awaited production was finally revealed! We have been busy listening to the songs and auditions have started. What a talented bunch we are!

  • Class 3 (Amy)

    Class 3 have just returned from a lovely long walk along the Canal to Saul Junction where we were met by Stroud Water Canals Trust. We have learnt about the history of the Canal and the local locks aswell as having the opportunity to look at all the key features down at Saul Junction.

  • Class 4 (Jemma)

    Class 4 have been sketching and painting Beatrix Potter characters. We have enjoyed experimenting with watercolours and creating front covers for our own Beatrix Potter style stories.

  • Class 1 (Michelle)

    This week we have enjoyed making counting books and looking at 3D shapes in maths. 

  • Class 3 (Amy)

    This week Class 3 have been writing 'Peter Rabbit's Great Escape!' A short story that they will be sharing with Class One next week. The stories have shared their ability to write creatively and show beautiful illustrations in watercolours. 

  • Class 2 (Rachel)

    This week we have been doing a lot of Reading! Class 2 have worked very hard showing off their reading skills ready for their new teacher in Year 3. We have also been enjoying our Green Fingers topic - our seeds have all started to germinate, it's very exciting!

  • Class 5 (lakefield Admin)

    We have been working extremely hard on our mystery stories this week, checking and editing as we go. We have also drawn beautiful self portraits in pencil and charcoal. Photos to be added to the art gallery soon!

    We did it! Class 6 rose to the occasion and, after all their hard work, they have finished their last SATs test! We are now looking forward to our party tomorrow and reading through the script for our long-awaited production!

    This week in literacy we have been reading the story 'The Little red hen.' We have learned actions to help us retell the story. We have sequenced pictures and planted our own seeds!

    This week, we have setup an exciting science experiment to investigate how to keep our teeth healthy.

    Reception are enjoying their new topic - E-I-E-I-O, all about farms.

    We have each written lists of farm animals and have listened to various duck stories -  'Farmer Duck' today!

    This week in mathematics we have been doubling and halving numbers.

    Class 3 have been learning to use Digimaps this week. We have found Gloucestershire on a map of Britain and then added photographs of local landmarks.

  • Thursday 4th May (Michelle)

    Class 1 are very excited to start our new topic Jungle Fever and we will be doing lots of activities inculding looking at world maps and growing. We have enjoyed our first swimming lesson.

  • Thursday 4th May (Sue)

    Class 6 have been working extremely hard towards their SATs tests next week and I am really proud of the effort that they have all put in. They are looking forward to the SATs breakfasts they will be feasting on from Monday to Thursday mornings before school.

    Class 5 have been working really hard on adding and subtracting fractions this week and creating mystery story cubes ready for their own stories next week.

  • Thursday 4th May (Amanda)

    Class 4 has begun their new science topic of teeth and eating. We are really looking forward to looking at our teeth in the mirrors and finding out about the functions of our teeth. 

  • Wednesday 3rd May (Rachel)

    Class 2 have been very excited to start their new 'Green Fingers' topic this week. We have all made a greenhouse and planted a sugar snap seed. We're hoping to be able to eat them by the end of term!
