Forest school and outdoor environment
The Lakefield Forest School (School in the woodland) is an immersive and inspirational series of experiences for our children from the nursery through to year six. Our forest school develops an understanding of the natural environment, ensures the children understand how to take care of nature and provides opportunities for the children (of all ages) to develop and enhance their skills outside of the classroom.
Our children experience nature first hand, develop skills, work co-operatively and undertake engaging and achievable tasks from den building, to bivouacs, from creating nature safe areas to enjoying hot chocolate around a fire circle. Staff are trained in the principles of the Forest School and we develop learning opportunities that the children fully engage in, are permitted to take risks and create learning opportunities for themselves.
We see the Forest School as a specialised learning approach that sits within and compliments the wider context of outdoor education to provide further opportunities for our children.
