Our ‘ASPIRE’ curriculum is predominantly taught by learning through play which is rich in cultural capital. It is based on our six curriculum values and the new EYFS 2020 Framework. We make every single day count and provide an early learning experience that will always be remembered.

Achieve

We take pride in our ever-changing indoor and outdoor learning environments where children learn through play. We are highly skilled practitioners who interact with the children in their play and ensure the children develop and progress in all 7 aspects of the EYFS 2020 Framework. In addition, we do plan and provide some adult-led activities for discrete teaching of particular skills.

Shine

Our children shine in the light of God and seek to be the light in the community. Everything we do reflects our Christian foundation and our respect for all other faiths, beliefs and cultures and our conviction that every child matters to God. The core values of Lakefield CofE Primary school are mirrored entirely in our Nursery.

Purpose

We believe that the purpose of education is to improve lives and shape a better society. We celebrate cultural capital and enable our children to be taken beyond their own experiences. Literacy is rich and modelled in play where engagement is high. Our children are motivated and develop a love of learning which equips them well for the rest of their Lakefield journey.

Invest

From an early age our children learn how to invest in their overall health and well-being. We place the well-being of our children, staff and community at the heart of everything we do. We strive to encourage an active life-style and make healthy choices for our bodies and our minds.

Respect

We teach the children to respect themselves, people around them and their wider community. Our setting is a place of self-discovery, wonder and awe. We celebrate individuality and do everything we can to enable them to reach their full potential. Their learning has no limits.

Embrace

In our curriculum we embrace our local area and promote strong links with the wider community. Our Nursery has a family ethos and often uses the phrase ‘Proud to be a Lakefielder’. In a family/team everyone feels valued and has a role to play. We prioritise giving our children a sense of security and belonging to a family beyond that of their own household. In research there is a strong correlation between well-being and attainment and our children really do flourish and become proud learners. It’s this aspect of our curriculum that makes us unique.

Parents are well informed of their child’s progress in the 7 areas of learning in the EYFS. Parents have access to on-going observations and assessment that we record on Sonar (launching September 2024). We also provide parents evenings to ensure parents have ample opportunity to discuss their child’s progress. In addition to this, we also strive to host events and welcome parents into our setting as much as possible.

It is important to us that parents feel they can talk to us, ask questions or voice concerns at any time. We are always very happy to set aside time to meet your needs, formally or informally. We pride ourselves on our excellent relationships with our parents and the strong, positive community we build together around the children.
